Apple Sells Over 4.2 Million Apple TVs

Apple previously converted its original Apple TV product into a $99 iOS-based device in September 2010 and since then, the company has managed to sell more than 4.2 million of the set top boxes, with nearly at third of those sales occurring in the last quarter. (1.4 million to be more specific).

Verizon: 4.2 Million iPhones Sold During Holiday Quarter

Oops. It looks as though Verizon’s chief financial officer Fran Shammo prematurely spilled the beans on a major fact of business for the nation’s largest wireless carrier.

Apple’s Founding Documents Pull $1.6 Million at Auction

Apple’s founding documents netted $1.6 million at a Sotheby’s auction today. That’s just over $300,000 per sheet of paper for the collection of documents.

The papers in question outline the founding of Apple, including the responsibilities and shares of Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Jobs and Wozniak each held a 45% stake in the company and Wayne held a 10% share. Wayne famously sold his 10% share two weeks after signing the document for $2,300. Mac App Store Reaches 100 Million Downloads

The number of iOS App Store downloads is in the billions now, and has been the subject of a few trademark lawsuits (Apple vs Amazon vs Android vs the world), but what about Apple’s Mac App Store?

100 Million iPhones Could Ship By Years End

Stop and think about that headline for a moment. Apple’s grand total number of iPhones shipped during 2011 could reach 100 million units.

What else sells that much anything in a year? Bananas? Individual Skittles?

Shipping that many units doesn’t guarantee sales of that many units, but even so, what other industry that deals in electronics does those kind of numbers? Record labels in their heyday were happy shipping 5-10 million units world wide. Now labels are lucky if an Artist’s album goes gold (500,000 copies).

Square Now Processing $4 Million a Day in Mobile Payments

It was only the end of May when Square, the mobile payment startup that could, announced it was processing a staggering $3 million a day in payments. The company is now processing $4 million a day and on track to surpass the $100 million mark in total transactions during the month of July.

Square, started by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, was recently valued at nearly $1 billion after a round of very lucrative ($100 million) funding. It helps that the company’s card readers are now sold in every Apple store (with a $10 credit) and still available for free online. Foxconn Replacing Workers with 1 Million Robots Over Next 3 Years

Foxconn, best known in the US for manufacturing all things Apple, recently made a statement indicating that the company would be replacing some of its workforce with automated robots.

Late last Friday, while attending a workers dance party, Foxconn founder and chairman, Terry Gou said, “The robots will be used to do simple and routine work such as spraying, welding and assembling which are now mainly conducted by workers.”

Apple Loses iPod Playlist Patent Trial, Ordered to Pay $8 Million

A federal jury decided against Apple in a patent infringement suit that originially included Sirius XM Radio, Coby Electronics, Archos and Personal Audio.

The suit alleged that Apple violated two patents related to downloadable playlists for iPods. Apple was ordered to pay Personal Audio $8 Million in damages, the remaining companies settled out of court last year.
