FastPdfKit First Siri Controlled App, Siri Can Now Start Your Car

Last week plamoni debuted the SiriProxy server showing it is possible to use Siri to make custom command Siri plug-ins. FastPdfKit devs used the Siri proxy to make their application the first Siri controlled App.

FastPdfKit communicates with Siri through the proxy server, but getting everything working takes a little more coding and elbow grease. First Sales Numbers Emerge for Steve Jobs Biography

Everyone knew it would be a bestseller. And now we’re getting our first look at the sales data for Steve Jobs’ official biography just one week after the must-read title was officially released.

The Walter Isaacson-penned authorized biography of the late Apple CEO sold approximately 380,000 copies in its first week of availability (in just the U.S.). Given that impressive showing, the book is presently one of the best-selling titles of the year. And by the end of 2011, it will all but certainly be the year’s best-selling book across all genres of print.

First Generation iPad Users Reporting Bricked iPads After iOS 5

Be careful updating to iOS 5 on your 3G first generation iPads.

iOS 5 seems to be full of bugs. First we had the Newsstand app which can be dragged into a folder and rendered unusable until dragged out, additionally we had the iPad 2 being able to be unlocked with a Smart Cover bug, and now we have first generation iPad (3G models) being bricked when trying to install the iOS 5 update.

Safari’s Desktop Browser Share Hits 5% for the First Time

Safari is Apple’s renowned native desktop and mobile browser. Safari comes pre-installed on all Macs and iDevices right out of the box.

For the month of September, NetMarketShare reports that Safari has reached 5% browser share on all of the world’s desktop and laptop computers for the first time in history. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer still comes in first at 54%, Mozilla Firefox at 22%, Google Chrome at 16%, and Opera at almost 2%. The pie graph can be seen below:

According to PocketNow, the sushi pictured above, has an extremely high probability of being the first photo taken with an iPhone 5 to surface.

Kind of underwhelming dontchya think?

Apparently the photo’s EXIF data indicates that it was taken with an iPhone 4, but like always, dig a little deeper and things get interesting. The image appears to have been cropped, with its original size being 8 megapixels, which is the rumored resolution of the new iPhone’s camera. Report Says First Week of September Marks Start of iPhone 5 Production

Production is about to commence on the 5th generation iPhone, says a new report from an Apple-related news site in Asia (Macotakara.jp). If the report is accurate, the iPhone 5 – or iPhone 4S, perhaps – will begin rolling off the assembly lines in about three weeks.

Florida High School First to Give Students iPads Instead of Textbooks

Lake Minneola High School in Central Florida will be giving all 1,750 students iPads instead of textbooks this fall.

Lake Minneola is also officially the coolest public high school in the country now.

School administrators tapped into $700,000 in capital funding as part of a state pilot program designed to save money on textbooks as well as provide a new approach to education. As part of the program the school must report costs and savings associated with the program as well as how the tablets influenced student learning.

Spotify Offering Free Unlimited Access to Music for First Six Months

Spotify launched last week in the US with much fanfare, but one burning question was not answered at the launch. How many hours of free music a month will be available for users with a free account? Spotify didn’t say at launch, but now it seems that they have an answer.
